Trails for Hiking in Nainital
Naina Peak
Naina Peak, also known as Cheena Peak, is a well-known trekking route in Nainital situated at an altitude of 2,615 metres. It is the highest peak of Nainital that offers breathtaking views of the mighty Naina Devi and its temple and the surrounding Himalayan mountain ranges. It is the perfect two-day adventure trip for trekking enthusiasts.
The hike starts in Mallital, Nainital and continues through the famous Snow View Hill to Naini Peak. After covering a distance of 14 km and hiking for a few hours, trekkers reach the alpine town of Pangot. Most travellers stop in this area to relax before trekking back to Nainital the following day.
Pangot has quite a reputation for its splendid bird watching activities amid its rich flora and fauna. The trail is full of pheasants, woodpeckers, warblers, thrushes, etc. Toss in picture-perfect sunsets; you will have the perfect place for camping and spending a peaceful night after a tiring hike.
There is an alternative route while trekking back to Nainital, which goes through Kilbury Village. While the trek is suitable for professional trekkers, the scenic views on this trail make the extra time and effort worthwhile!

Snow View Point
Located at a distance of 3 km from the town, Snow View Point is one of the most popular tourist spots near Nainital. It is yet another day trek that delivers exactly what its name promise - snow!
This point features a quaint cluster of temples at the top and provides spectacular views of the surrounding snow-capped mountain ranges and valleys. It is said that those atop the peak can see places that are at a distance of over 350 km on a clear day.
The tourists often describe it as a challenging feat. Therefore, if you are a beginner, come prepared with the proper footwear and mindset. Pay special attention to the weather forecast if you are visiting Snow View Point. A turbulent weather not only makes the trek a bit more dangerous, but also the views surrounding the beautiful peaks are dulled. Hiking in Nainital is truly an experience in itself!
Tiffin Top
Tiffin Top, the second-highest peak in the town, offers a stunning 360-degree view of Nainital and the hills surrounding the Kumaon region. The trolley ride will carry you to Tiffin top, also known as Dorothy’s peak. Taking a ride on the ropeway is one of the most invigorating activities in Nainital.
The ride offers some stunning mountain views. Those wishing to add a little thrill to their trip to Tiffin Top can take the alternative route that involves a short hike to the peak’s summit. It is a delightful trek for photograph enthusiasts. The 4 km trek will take the adventure lovers through the lush green forest and expose them to breathtaking views.
Guano Hills
Taking a trip to Guano Hill, situated 1800 metres above sea level, is an ideal Nainital trek that offers serenity and peace. Itl is often considered a hiker’s paradise. The sound of birds chirping combined with the captivating forest full of oak, deodar, and bamboo trees make this place a must-visit for tourists visiting Nainital.
The trek to Guano Hill starts from Pangot Village, and the time for trekking is only permitted between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. However, it is recommended to plan your day thoroughly to enjoy the trip to these enchanting hills.
Nainital, often considered a traveller’s paradise, also offers the best shopping, luxurious resorts and quaint mountain homestays. The treks and hikes truly offer adventure seekers a sense of peace that gravitates them towards the hills!
