The Red Fort, also known as Lal Qila, was constructed between May 1639 and April 1648 and served as the main residence for Mughal Emperors. The fort, made of red sandstone towers up to 75 feet and houses entertainment halls, indoor canals, massive baths, beautiful gardens, spacious balconies and an ornate mosque. On 15th August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India hoisted the Indian National Flag above the Lahori Gate, sketching this octagonal fort into the history books.

Chandni Chowk is one of the oldest and busiest markets, located in the heart of Old Delhi. The Red Fort is located just east of the market. Chandni Chowk was built by Shah Jahan and designed by his daughter, and originally featured canals that divided up the market. This dense market is the perfect place for shopaholics to let loose. Whether you are looking for clothes, accessories, books, handicrafts or even jewellery, you can satiate your shopping desires at Chandi Chowk.

The Qutab Minar is a minaret within the Qutab Complex that rises to 72.5 metres,making it the tallest minaret in the world, built by bricks. This tapering tower contains a spiral staircase of 379 steps and was built in 1193, after the defeat of the last Hindu kingdom. The tower is ornamented by inscriptions and decorated balconies.

Located in central New Delhi in the middle of a crossroad, India Gate, formerly known as the All Indian War Memorial, stands as a memorial to 70,000 soldiers of the British-Indian Army who laid down their lives between 1914 and 1921. Designed by Sir Edward Lutyens, the architectural style of India Gate is compared to the Gateway of India in Mumbai and Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The memorial wears the names of over 13,000 British and Indian soldiers. During the night, the gate is colourfully lit up by floodlights, for an incredible view.

The City Palace was established around the same time as the city that encompasses it, by Maharaja Sawal Jai Singh II. The palace features a blend of Mughal, European and Rajputana architecture, housing several halls, courtyards, galleries, smaller palaces, gateways and holy shrines. It was built as a residence for royal families and their guests.

Jantar Mantar is a collection of 19 architectural astronomical instruments built by the founder of Jaipur, Sawai Jai Singh II. Located next to the City Palace and Hawa Mahal, it features the world’s largest stone sundial and other instruments that allow for the observation of astronomical positions with the naked eye. It is an expression of the astronomical skills and scholarly thinking of the Mughal period.

Hawa Mahal is a palace built of red and pink sandstone, that translates to “Palace of Winds”. Hawa Mahal, built in 1799, is Jaipur’s most distinct and renowned landmark that rises five storeys. The top of the palace offers astounding views of the City Palace and Jantar Mantar.

Amber Fort, also popularly known as Amer Fort was built with pale yellow and pink sandstone and white marble, and sits atop a small hill. Renowned for its large ramparts, splendid gates, cobbled paths and beautiful courtyards, the fort overlooks Maota Lake. This opulent palace boasts intricately detailed Mughal architecture and is laid out as 4 storeys. Amer Fort is also home to some underground tunnels that connect it to the Jaigarh Fort.
