Cabo De Rama: A Fort that Predates Portuguese Colonisation

 

There is not much to see in this fort today but the gorgeous view of the Arabian Sea from this fort makes up for it. It is a popular belief that when Rama from the epic Ramayana was in exile along with his wife Sita and brother Laxmana; his wife had taken refuge here in this exact location. However, as history goes this fort was taken by the Portuguese from Raja of Sound in 1763 and was converted into a prison which was under operation till 1955. Apart from the panoramic views of the sea, there is also a church inside the structure which is regarded as one the important historical places in South Goa because the structure predates Portuguese rule in Goa.
