Testimonials

  • Like waking to a glorious sunrise with panoramic views of mist-shrouded plains..Past flowering fields of mustard seed… The thakur distilled our Hill Fort and Neemrana experiences into one defining thought of "dwelling in the past".We did just that, thankfully bypassing the local museums and lengthy ticket queues by opting for an historic sleepover instead.

  • Being at Neemrana is probably the closest to feeling one is part of an Indian miniature painting.

  • There is an outstanding collection of colonial paintings, prints and photographs, with the famous Cartier-Bresson image of Nehru and the Mountbattens.

  • Its character lies in its unpretentious yet proud bearing, almost grandfather like...a spirit of adventure surrounds it....back to stories of high seas... four poster beds...bathrooms that happily accomodate capacious tubs and windows with views of trees or the seas.

  • The building is as much an example of intelligent conservation as it is an evocation of the past, using as it does a minimum of carefully chosen vintage furniture, paintings and artifacts.

  • A rare example of thoughtful, historical restoration in a country where lack of funds often necessitates shortcuts.

  • Across the river we visited the renowned Art Deco Palace where the Morvi royal family still lives – now  selectively open to residents at Darbargadh. We admired the religious Indian subjects and hunting scenes executed by the Polish painter Julius Stephan Norblin in the fashionable style of the 1930s.

  • Big hotels have succeeded in creating an Orwellian myth about the business traveller..a soulless clone best housed..homogenous boxes… soaking up overpriced drinks and shaking about to brain-numbing techno music..And just when the swarms of urban drones that buzz in and out of Bangalore had all but surrendered to the myth, along comes the little Villa Pottipati. A breath of garden-fresh air for the gasping business traveller.

  • Rosewood floors and panelled walls, dark wood furniture…green mosaic bathroom floors, stuffed animals from the legendary Vivian and Vivian of Mysore, and an  absorbing collection of books and LPs... There are sitting areas for every mood/ season/ time of day: the verandah overlooking the front lawn, with its painted wicker furniture; complete with love seats and tiger-skin rug.
